Transatlantic digital cooperation in a time of global challenges
SUMMARY
As the digital transition deeply transforms our businesses and everyday lives, the central role played by digital platforms and emerging technologies has unlocked unprecedented opportunities in addition to new challenges for our economies and democracies.
The European Union and the United States now face the need to address these common issues in a time of increased global geopolitical challenges.
While digital issues are under the headlight on both sides of the Atlantic, Europeans and Americans have retained their own approach to tackling these challenges.
One year after the adoption of the EU’s digital policy package and after the third meeting of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) – created as a transatlantic forum to coordinate on key global technology and economic issues – these subjects carry strong implications for businesses and citizens in both the United States and the European Union.
Where is the transatlantic dialogue on digital issues currently headed? How can we seize the current opportunity for greater convergence between the United States and Europe in digital policy?
Among the panelists were representatives of the American administration (White House and NIST), technology companies (Match Group and Credo AI), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, scholars from Brookings and Georgetown Law, as well as representatives of European institutions. Introductory words were provided by Aurelie Bonal, Chargée d'Affaires (a.i.) at the Embassy of France, and by Michael Curtis, Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to the United States.
This event was organized by the Embassy of France in the U.S. and the international law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel.
